Hi .. I'm Tim .. I just got an email from a friend. It was a delightful request to come and play here .. so here I am.
I'm 61, male, and drive cab all night from Wednesday through Saturday .. that's why I call myself nighthawk. At heart I'm a journalist and a broadcaster and photographer. And I pay the rent as a cab driver. I'm good at what I do and am paying the rent and eating and have my phone and Internet covered .. with a little left over. wth .. that's the basics covered. Whatever comes after that is icing.
Am I a Buddhist? I would say yes. However I have no doubt that some learned types would disagree. I hear some saying that Buddhists are this or that or believe some thesis being discussed to be true or not, and I look at their assertions and realize that quite obviously I am NOT a Buddhist because I am probably NOT this or that and I probably will disagree with what you call to be the truth .. or not.
But I'm a Buddhist, I say, because I am irrevocably committed to discovering the Compassionate Way and walking that way. This does NOT mean I intend to be a monk or chaste or walk the way of St. Francis of Assisi. I want to live life and be fully a part of life. It's partly because I want to, and partly that I think that if there is any hope to rebuild our civilization into a healthy experience we need to be willing to live our lives with integrity .. and be proud to do so.
So there's more of course .. but in a few words that's me and my mission.
Tim
