In Vajrayana Buddhism, the high octane sibling of Mahayana, it is said on auspicious days, karma is multiplied 100 or 100,000 or a million times! It was alluded to at another Buddhist bulletin board we all have frequented-ahem!- that this effect is due to the etheric channels that flow through our bodies and astral fields being influenced by the lunar cycle and other cosmic influences. Anyone able to clarify why merit or karma is multiplied on certain days? Namaste /\ mm

So I will be interested to see what others have to say about this. It sounds like it's strictly a Buddhist thing.

Monkeymind ~ I googled this and was directed to a thread you created over at esangha in the Tibetan Buddhism subforum around the first week of December. I noticed in that thread that a couple of people mentioned that it was not necessarily the karma or merit that was multiplied but the number of mantras that were recited on a particular or auspicious day. Some members also mentioned the effect of the lunar or astrological cycles affecting people at certain times of the month or year, and possibly how that coincided with the recitation of numerous mantras on those particular days. I assume since you created this thread after receiving those responses, you were not satisfied with their answers. Is that correct or did those answers satisfy your question? Just curious ...
