Isn't that nice?! I find it so peaceful to listen to and watch. Glad you liked it too! (And good to see you back!) I'm just sitting quietly waiting for the storm clouds to pass over and some real sunlight to shine in. Sometimes all you can do is nothing. Hi.

Metaphorically .. and the clouds pass as real communication comes into play. Real being whatever it takes to have alive, fun and friendly conversation.

And are you at peace? It would help to know that.

hmm .. I do like the you who is at peace with herself. Err ... how many other me's are there? (Sorry, I couldn't resist! ) is there any at all, or is 'me' a creation of ego?

hmm .. I do like the you who is at peace with herself. Err ... how many other me's are there? (Sorry, I couldn't resist! ) It's really up to each of us to say. I've encountered people who carry several personae within. I've had one, a resentfull one, and part of my own work has been to cut it loose and let it drift away. Another, the compassionate one, I would seek to strengthen. I'm a smart rat and I've learned the hard way that whatgoes around does come around.

There's nothing the matter with ego until ego thinks it's the boss. Then there's trouble. Ego gets you out into the fray with an identity. You need that. But ego is just a piece of machinery designed to help who you are work within a physical reality. When who you are is in charge all is well. When ego is in charge there's hell to pay.

I have always liked viewing the ego as an "assistant," bringing me fears or blocks I need to work on. And sometimes I have to calm its fears just like a small child.

Nighthawk ~ Check out our Yoga section. I posted some interesting articles in there about ego and what we have been discussing. Scanned them all .. there certainly is lots of material there to promote discussion. Where I might differ with some of what I saw is with an underlying assumption that appears here and there that because we are so screwing up our lives with a misunderstanding of ego and it's place in the scheme of things, we need to kill ego or cut it loose altogether. You can't do that and be living in a 'physical' reality. What we CAN do is learn to be honest and forthright and use ego to make it work. Ego is a wonderful creative tool if used appropriately .. but if one trains ego to operate dishonestly then it will, and the results will be returned in kind. Who you are creates the morality. Ego is a mindless machine that carries out your wishes and intentions. It can be a shiny clean sparkly automobile that you ride around in as you negotiate your way through the day .. or it can be a filthy old rattletrap left to decay and fall apart for lack of maintenance and attention.

Are you sure you read those articles? Because that's not what he was saying at all. He is merely talking about disengaging from ego's control, and he's NOT saying that anyone should slay their ego. That's why I thought you'd enjoy the articles, since they are in line with our previous discussion. I'm sorry Saori .. it was quick read while I was readying myself for work. I don't want to tar those beautiful writings with a particular position or lump it altogether in any particular way. There was a something in there I reacted to. Probably when I go through it all more thoroughly I'll find it.

Oh, no problem. I think I posted quite a bit to the Buddhist sections too, so you might want to check those out as well ... assuming you have the time. Thank you.
